One evening when I got home from my boring office job, I found that my landlord had visited my apartment while I was out, and had locked a doorknob for which I didn’t have a key. I had to call a locksmith. The operator told me she’d send a locksmith right out, and the fee would start at $30. He arrived in thirty minutes, opened the door in thirty seconds, and charged me $125. That was my first experience with a locksmith, and I felt robbed. It seemed to me that this guy had chosen a great trade for himself and was practicing it in the worst possible way.
